2022 Jif Peanut Butter Recall Today Breaking News: Peanut butter is being recalled for possible salmonella contamination

Multiple giff peanut butter products linked to an Lexington, Ky., manufacturing facility are being called back due to the outbreak of Salmonella

J. M Smker Company, the parent company for the popular peanut butter brand, issued a voluntary recall on Friday

The Food and Drug Administration is investigating the outbreak in collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and local partners that has so far spread across 12 states

Currently, according to data provided by the CDC, 14 people have reported illnesses and two of those cases have resulted in hospitalizations

"Five out of five people reported eating peanut butter and four out of five reported consuming different varieties of giff brand peanut butter before they became particularly ill," the FDA said

What is Salmonella? Salmonella is a bacteria in itself, but the disease it causes is known as salmonellosis

For many infected people, symptoms appear 12 to 72 hours after contact and often include diarrhea, fever and stomach cramps, according to the FDA

Most people who are infected recover within four to seven days and do not need any treatment
