Injured CM Punk Latest News 2022: Injured CM Punk away from AEW after World Championship win

CM Punk had to split from the AEW World Champion just days after winning

A red-eyed and emotional punk announced Friday night's "Stampede" of All Elite Wrestling that he was injured and must give up the title he won at Sunday's Double or Nothing pay-per-view

An interim champion will be crowned at the Forbidden Door pay-per-view on June 26

A battle royal will kick off next week's "AEW Dynamite" and the winner will face Jon Moxley in the main event for a place against another challenger at The Forbidden Door

"The bad news is I'm injured and need surgery," Punk said. "Some things break, the biggest is my heart because I love performing in front of you all and I wanted to go one hell of a run

Punk, 43, recently defeated "Hangman" Adam Page in Double or Nothing to win the championship in Las Vegas - his first world title since 2013

He was set to face New Japan Pro Wrestling star Hiroshi Tanahashi for the AEW Championship at the company's first joint pay-per-view, "Forbidden Door," at the United Center in his hometown of Chicago

Punk, however, sees the injury as a setback from which he will return. Punk said he was ready to give up the title, but AEW president Tony Khan did not want to

"I told you I was leaving until the wheels fell off." The wheels are still there, they haven't fallen," Punk said

"It's just that one of them was broken. I feel better than I am today

But I'm here to tell you that I feel bad as hell too. It's a bump in the road. it's sad. It hurt like hell. I want to wrestle for you right now

In his first appearance as champion on Dynamite earlier this week, Punk can be seen limping against Max Castor after a tag team match with FTR

and Gun Club and later when he turned out to face MJF in a video of fans after the cameras went off. Fightful reported that Punk was battling a leg injury
